Dr. Hoffman is a former high school english teacher who turned to research and consulting when he realized that the problems he had seen in the schools in which he had worked could not be solved or even significantly ameliorated as a school teacher. He saw that new knowledge needed to be developed, based up an understanding of the goals of education, the functioning of our schools and the needs of students and families – and this knowledge must be shared in ways that that is can be understood and made use of by a variety of constituencies.
